ABOUT
Re'em Mesilati is a contemporary figurative painter whose work investigates identity, perception, and psychological space through structured visual systems. Working primarily in oil on canvas, she constructs controlled architectural environments in which the human figure appears partially obscured, mediated, or fragmented.
Recurring motifs of modular glass blocks function as both barrier and interface — separating viewer from subject while simultaneously inviting closer inspection. Through this interplay of concealment and exposure, her paintings question the stability of presence and the reliability of vision.
Mesilati studied for four years at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, where she earned her BFA. Her practice developed through a sustained engagement with questions of materiality, spatial construction, and the act of looking — concerns that continue to shape her work today.
Her compositions are deliberate and restrained, yet psychologically charged — positioning the body within systems that distort, reflect, and regulate perception.
